Amelia Madeline (Minnie) Hobkirk was the eldest of ten children born to David Ritchie and his wife Mary Amelia Anstice of 'Scone Mill', Perth, Tasmania. Amelia was born on 28 Dec 1857 and christened on 22 Jan 1858 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Evandale. She married Francis Charles Hobkirk, a solicitor, on 6 Jul 1887 at the Holy Trinity Church, Launceston. Their only daughter Kathleen was born on 2 May 1888. Amelia died at her residence aged 97 on 4 Feb 1955. She was buried at the Carr Villa Cemetery in Section E1 No. 656 with her husband who had died in Apr 1944 aged 83. All of Amelia's younger siblings and sister-in-law Mildred Hobkirk are pictured in the Family Album.

Amelia's father-in-law John Francis Hobkirk exhibited two paintings in the 1891-92 Tasmanian Exhibition: 'Table Cape' and 'Mount of the Holy Cross'.
