Jessie Russell Dempster was born in Prahran, Victoria, on 13 Nov 1882, the fourth daughter of Charles Dempster (1846-1937), draper, and his wife Elizabeth Jane Blackmore (1857-1940). She moved with her family and nurse to Launceston on 19 Dec 1882 when she was a baby. Her father had established a drapery business in Launceston six months earlier. She made her debut at a dance in Aug 1901. She married Harold Bessell Henley, a dentist, son of J A Henley of Melbourne at St John's Church Launceston on 2 Feb 1910. Jessie died in Hobart on 20 Nov 1935 and is buried at the Cornelian Bay Cemetery. Her husband died on 9 Feb 1954. See The Examiner 22 Oct 2005, p. 32 and 29 Oct 2005, p. 33.
