He was educated at the Launceston Church Grammar School from 1875 to 1880. He worked as a jackaroo at 'Parknook', Cressy, and later went into partnership with Mr Lovell at 'Drysdale', Port Sorell. Their seven children, born between 1902 and 1916, all had the second name of Carington. In 1911 the family moved to 'Beulah' and also had a small apple orchard at 'Tretyre', Gravelly Beach. Norman died on 6 Jul 1951 in his 89th year. Muriel moved back to Launceston and died on 12 Sep 1955. See The Examiner 26 May 2007, page 31.
