Philip Meyer Windeatt was the son of William Windeatt (c.1824-1896), the Launceston postmaster, and his wife Emma Watlin (c.1833-1900). He was born on 26 Jan 1872 at Victoria Terrace, Launceston. Philip was appointed on 1 May 1888 to the position of fourth clerk at the Launceston Customs House. In 1901 he married Ada Bantick at Brighton, Tasmania. The couple moved to Mafeking, South Africa. Ada died at Bulawayo, Rhodesia, in 1912, and Philip died at Figtree, Southern Rhodesia, on 1 Apr 1943. See The Examiner 17 Jun 2006, p.37.
